I Want to be a Coffee Drinker

One day last week I was driving around, and it occured to me that I want to be a coffee drinker. It is a little odd, I seem to get most of my odd ideas while driving around. Anyway, I love the idea of being a coffee drinker, and I love the smell of coffee. Many years ago when I was in college, I tried to become a coffee drinker by chugging some of my roommate's instant International flavored coffee, and it tasted like something I accidently drank through a pipette in Chemistry lab and it made me feel sick to my stomach.

Fast forward about 25 years (God, I am old!) and in my mind there is a positive connotation to being a coffee drinker- there are so many nice social settings that revolve around coffee, shoppers look less harried when they are nursing a coffee as they shop, and the slug of caffeine wouldn't hurt either. People always talk about how they are no good until they have had their coffee- does that mean if I don't drink coffee I am never any good??

My husband got one of those one cup coffee brewers for Christmas, along with a coffee assortment, so I decided I would try that out. I found the varieties I tried the first 2 days a little bitter, in fact the 2nd day, I made my oldest son finish it for me. I went online and found something that was billed as a lighter roast, so I ordered that, and Tara told me I must get some creamer (good stuff- not skim milk!). Today I had all of the ingredients, so I tried a cup after dinner, and I was able to drink it all! I am on my way to being a coffee drinker! Now I need to get super productive in my studio to justify it!

I'm a coffee drinker and lover too. I drink from 3 to 5 mugs a day.

I suck down coffee like it's going out of style. Black Folger's is the brand -- strong and cheap.

I've got a background in journalism, so I developed my awful coffee habit early on.

Life without coffee is impossible - or at least very difficult. I look forward to fresh coffee in the morning and it helps me get through days of work.

Good call and welcome to the coffee club!

Hi, I'm right there with you. At 51, I'm a diet coke gal. Never could get into drinking the bitter stuff bleh! But I temped at a place where they roasted coffee and there was always a fresh pot of the REALLY good stuff so I tried getting into it. I found that by adding a bit of chocolate syrup and a little peppermint syrup I actually LOVED it! I did that for awhile, but now, it's back to diet coke for me. Keep up the good fight. PS you could walk around the mall with a cup of hot chocolate, just a thought. :)

The best thing about being a coffee drinker - is that you can have other coffee drinkers show you the ropes and some tricks if you want! Good luck with your goal :)

I love the smell of coffee, but I don't think I will ever be a coffee drinker. I'd end spilling it all over everything...

Well congratulation, I would feel lost without my daily cups of coffee. So welcome in the club

I laughed at this because I'm forever in the process of quitting coffee. I quit it for a week, two weeks, a year, but always go back. Sigh...

Isn't it amazing how drinking coffee is so cool now? You see the actors on your favorite TV show walking around with a cup of coffee and you think "If I drink coffee, I'll have a great life like they do!" LOL
I love my coffee, but like you, I don't like it black or bitter...I have to have my soy milk or Half & Half with agave syrup and good fresh beans I grind myself! Welcome to the crazy world of coffee addiction!

What a great post! Very funny. I've tried to be a coffee drinker, too - and since I am absolutely hooked on Frappuccino, does that qualify me? Or am I just a Wanna Be? A Coffee Drinker Poser? A Hack?

Thank you for making me question my self-worth even more. {sigh}

Wondering if I'm good enough now...

Coffee always smells better than it tastes, to me. The same with popcorn.
